We continue our journey Southward......
Savannah wanders along the Savannah River. The river walk area lies several feet below the level of the historic downtown. To get to the river, and to the shops and restaurants in the riverfront area, one must CAREFULLY descend one of many "historic" steps.

The River Walk in Savannah |
The weather has been beautifully warm in the 70's (!). The historic district is wonderfully walkable, with lots of little parks and squares, highlighted with statues, and plaques.

Then we drove out to Hilton Head, SC...about an hour from Savannah. Whereas it was lovely, it was pretty "posh", and not quite our cup of tea.

Today we drove out to Tybee Island, about 20 miles east of Savannah. It was definitely a beach town, winding down after the big season. We loved it. Although it was windy, we found a secluded spot behind some dunes, and just relaxed in the sun a while. We got by all the "Turtle Crossing" signs, without seeing any turtles. The pelicans were diving, and the dolphins were leaping in the sun. It really was a great day!
