We haven't had Internet for a couple of days, so a little catching up is in order. On Friday, we drove from Mystic, CT across the state to the Hudson River Valley.
Here is something to note: years ago, when the overpasses along some of these highways were built, no one was driving 13-foot-tall vehicles (like Irv). Moments before entering the on ramp of a NY state "Parkway", Jack noticed a sign that said "No Commercial Vehicles Allowed" and something about height restrictions. So we pulled over and called the NY State Police who chastised us soundly. He informed us that all trailers are absolutely forbidden on any NY "Parkway."
We found out pretty quickly that we have to be on high alert on other roads in the east as well. Live and learn.
We stayed in a beautiful county park at Croton-On-Hudson, situated on a point of land jutting into Hudson River where it meets with the Croton River. Saturday we meandered around the valley, up one side of the river and down the other. It was warm, but definitely fall, and the trees were exhausting the last of their splendor.

The Croton River winds up a beautiful valley where we discovered a lovely dam and park.

Part of our drive took us to West Point. We drove through the campus, and both of us commented on how stirring it was to see the old buildings, and the young cadets just starting their careers. And it was open! Even though it is a government institution.....
