You know all those beautiful picture post cards and tourism posters you've seen of Vermont? Well, they don't actually do Vermont justice. It is green, and lush...with wide sweeping fields, and farms that appear to have been photo-shopped in from Norman Rockwell paintings.
We are staying in a community park on the north edge of Burlington, on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain. It is brisk, sunny and cool, with a definite bite of early autumn in the air. Yet people here are in shorts and sandals and parkas. Downtown Burlington, which is a college town, is alive with great stores, outdoor food vendors, music, runners, and dogs. Really a fun place.
Today we drove to Middlebury, VT, home of Middlebury College and about 40 miles SE of Burlington. Stacy's sister and her family spend many summers in Middlebury, as faculty in a teaching program. It is a picture-book Vermont town, with Otter Creek running through it, a village green with a white gazebo, a covered bridge. Absolutely lovely!

Tomorrow, we continue our eastward journey....toward the Atlantic.
